Tangshan (China), New York and Vancouver - September 28, 2020: Today, Canopy, a non-profit environmental organization, and NEPCon, a third-party auditor, jointly announced the results of an independent audit of Tangshan Sanyou Pulp's purchase. Tangshan Sanyou has completed the second CanopyStyle audit as a viscose producer.

The audit report confirmed that Tangshan Sanyou had removed known high risks from the supply chain. The Company has implemented its procurement policy and continuously improved its procurement practices, and has taken concrete actions so far to improve transparency and to make every effort to fill the information gaps when some of the raw material procurement information provided by dissolving pulp suppliers is incomplete.

Tangshan Sanyou has more than ten wood pulp suppliers, covering more than ten countries and multiple continents. Tangshan Sanyou is actively communicating with its dissolving pulp suppliers and, if necessary, requires risk control measures in supplier contracts, such as FSC Forest Stewardship Council certification and scientific protection programs for original endangered forests.

"Tangshan Sanyou's increasingly transparent sourcing of raw materials, as well as the company's support for forest protection programs and leadership in the development of new post-consumer recycled viscose products, demonstrate the company's strong commitment to the CanopyStyle initiative." Canopy CEO Nicole Rycroft says.

"Tangshan Sanyou is pleased to have the opportunity to understand the impact of the raw materials we use on forests around the world," said Dongbin Zhang, Deputy General manager of Tangshan Sanyou. "We will continue to communicate with our dissolving pulp suppliers to support scientific forest solutions and further expand the new product innovation required by the market."

"NEPCon is pleased to be the independent reviewer of the CanopyStyle Initiative, helping to protect native endangered forests," Jon Jickling, Director of Solutions at NEPCon, said, "We are pleased to evaluate and document the long-term efforts of companies like Tangshan Sanyou, which are committed to actively improving their wood pulp purchasing practices."

Important audit results:

· Tangshan Sanyou has communicated with suppliers and, where appropriate, taken actions to reduce and eliminate potential risks in the supply chain to achieve policy commitments.

· In order to comply with CanopyStyle audit requirements, the company's system has been significantly improved, especially in terms of training system, leadership group communication, risk assessment, and commitment to increasing the proportion of FSC certified materials.

· In addition to the above system improvements, Tangshan Sanyou has also successfully produced viscose staple fibers containing 50% post-consumer recycled cotton fabrics.

Going forward, Canopy recommends that companies:

1. Set and publicize ambitious goals, with a time frame, to increase the use of the next generation of alternative fiber materials and make them commercially competitive.

2. Continue to use ForestMapper and complementary guidance documents (e.g., Notice of Procurement Review of Primary Endangered Forests and Dispulp Mill Assessment Document) to complete and share risk assessments of all feedstock supplies.

3. For suppliers with potential risks that are purchased from key areas of primary endangered forests, it is necessary to continue to communicate with relevant dissolved pulp suppliers, clarify the procurement risks and/or risk control measures, and strive to eliminate all risks. Canopy is here to help.

The review reflects the current situation and will be used as an evaluation basis for the 2020 Button Ranking report.
